For my structural behavior class, I was tasked with designing a roof structure for a meeting hall. Our imaginary client asked for a meeting hall in which the roof was the dominant architectural element. Therefore, my design prioritized natural lighting and the articulation of space through structure. My truss takes precedent from traditional Japanese woodwork, which allowed for the creative use of heavy timber connections that are seen. The end result of my design ultimately lifted the volume of the space, allowing for a light and beautiful room to be accomplished through structure.
