The Oasis-A Reimagined Civic Space
My Design project brief was to design a new civic space in the Northern section of the city, in a district, called Norrebro. The specific site is a transitional point of the city with busy traffic congestion from buses, bikes, cars, bikers and humans. In addition, a new expanded Metro network is coming in a few years so this project served as an opportunity to turn a once empty space into a commons, where people of different groups mix, essentially a place where the ballet of city life takes place. Due to Copenhagen being one of the busiest and best cities to bike in, I designed a walking/biking path that brought users to a pathway above the train tracks, to offer individuals 360 views of the city and an escape from the hustle and bustle below. In addition this pathway served as a secondary route to the historic train station loading dock next door, that is still going to be in use, giving a much needed alternative to the current one elevator situation in place. This meandering path coupled with a much more natural landscape below creates a seamless juxtaposition for people of all ages to enjoy.
